The webcam is easier and faster to set up although it has a slight lag. Have you tried Ocean Way with a webcam or the tracker? If you like Ocean Way I definitely recommend trying that! You don’t want Ocean Way to convert a headphone simulation into a “room”! So definitely put Sonarworks AFTER Ocean Way! Remember, Ocean Way is simulating a room based on the source frequencies and Sonarworks is simulating a headphone response. I recommend using Sonarworks AFTER Ocean Way. If you’re using Sonarworks be sure to turn off the headphone correction in Ocean Way. Never use both headphone corrections together, obviously. For various reasons there is no actual absolute “correct” in spite of Sonarworks’s marketing material, so it’s more about whichever you prefer and then getting familiar with that tonal balance. The best way though, is to use the hardware because then the plugin won't have to process image recognition information.Hello! I’m a big fan of NX Ocean Way and I have Sonarworks as well.Īs far as whether to use NX’s headphone correct or Sonarworks’s – that’s up to you as to which works best for your needs. It cuts down on the number of information it tracks but it still needs to track. There is a way to "lock" the position I believe so it keeps the head in the sweet spot, but it doesn't actually turn off the tracking. There was a lot of information on this posted up on Gearslutz. Turning it off would be like trying to tell what a person looks like based on their footprints. Turn off tracking and the brain will interpret this sweetspot as a synthetic reverb, because it needs even those tiniest of variations. It's nothing to do with the plugin and how it works, it's all to do with the brain.

It's informatio the brain NEEDS to interpret space realistcally, even the sweetspot. Subtle head movements, breathing, reaching for that mouse as you respond to an element you hear in the mix, it's all motion. The sound of the sweet spot doesn't come from having your head locked in a vice and never ever moving from there. In the past other attempts have been to discard the subtle motion information but they never got it right. That's what a few have thought about the sweet spot. Waves have probably made a killing over the last year or so with the "$29" sales cheers it should set the correct adjustment and STAY in the sweet spot no matter where you turn your head you should stay 'center stage' (the ear pieces ain't moving on your head lol)Īs for micro transaction. once you put in head size and speaker angle then hit the sweet spot button. I can understand the tracking if you want to hear left heavy or vice versa as if moving around in the studio. Whatever you do though, try to leave the tracking on, its almost pointless otherwise. This is definitely one of those, "try it before you knock it" type of products. Although we do all vary in size and features, the approximation is still very good. It's kind of like echolocation in humans.Īpparently the went even into detail of modelling your head, your ears, face and body. Even when you are perfectly still, your head still moves, breathing alone will simply assure that. Without that movement information the imaging just collapses and the brain interprets it as a synthetic type of reverb. It would seem that the brain picks up its spacial information from the movement of the head, even very slight ones. For it to have effect though you really do NEED that tracking information.

It's actually very impressive according to many reputable sources. My guess is they are looking at more of a micro transaction model, smaller price, larger sales count. It's $50 because they want "everyone to have it".

So it makes it much more accessible and more easy to trial it.

If I understand correctly the camera tracking is only for those who don't have the BlueTooth device to attach to their headphones. i will eventually try it for ****s and giggles but common sense says if Waves don't have much faith in it. i will give it a whirl (have the demo for two days now) and not really excited to try it. I've tried them all from focusrite's VRM Box to Flux's iHear and back again. are you gonna be tying your shoe laces when you should be listening?

why do they need that? (another gimmick) REAL monitoring is in fixed positions so why does the software need to follow your head to keep you in a 'sweet spot'.

being $99 full price is scary in itself and for it to be $49 on intro pricing seems they are definitely trying to pawn it off on folks and they don't have a lot of faith in it.Īs for facial recognition. With the pricing structure of Waves and their plugins. Well my 2 cents although i have not tried it.
